Malaria Advisory for Vietnam from the Center for Disease Control

The US government provides updated information on diseases for international travelers through the Center for Disease Control (CDC). According to the CDC, there is risk of malaria in most rural areas of Vietnam (except for the Red River Delta and the coastal plain north of Nha Trang). They report that there is no risk in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Da Nang, Nha Trang, Qui Nhon, and Haiphong. They suggest that travelers to risky areas in Vietnam should take atovaquone/proguanil, doxycycline, mefloquine, (or primaquine in special circumstances). Side effects can occur with these medications, so please read the precautions.
